5 Things to do in The New Forest

Anyone who plans to visit New Forest will surely enjoy their stay.  This large area in southern England boasts of many attractions that would be enjoyed from all walks of life. Whether you are looking to soak in some culture or enjoy the outdoors, there is something for you to enjoy at New Forest.

If you’re looking to spend some time at New Forest, here is the list of activities for you to enjoy. Bring your family and friends as you will surely have the time of your life there.

1. Learn more about the history of New Forest – history buffs would be interested to know that in 1079, William the Conqueror actually called this area his “Nova Foresta” or his new hunting forest. Most of the wilderness and woodlands are still very much protected. If you wanted to know more about the history of the area,  the perfect place to start your journey is at the New Forest Museum and Visitor Centre, and from there you can go to the historic houses and villages.

2. Go horseback riding – many locals would say that the best way to explore this area is by riding horses or ponies. If it’s your first time, you can get riding lessons to ease your way into it. For those who do not want to ride solo, they can avail of carriage rides instead. A perfect place to go on a wagon ride is at Burley, which is considered one of the prettiest villages in the area.

3. Enjoy wildlife with the kids – if you are traveling with kids and think that New Forest might not have enough attractions for your young ones, then you are wrong. One of the places you can take them to the New Forest Wildlife Park. In this 25 acres of land, go hiking and you'll will be able to see animals like otters, the Red Deer, and even a European bison.  There are restaurants in the area, or you can even bring a picnic with you.

4. Enjoy water sports – if wildlife is not your thing, and you would rather go swimming, then fret not as there are water activities available in New Forest. With 4go 3 miles of amazing coastline, you would not be bored. At the New Forest Water Park, you can go wakeboarding, water skiing, paddle boarding, kayaking. There are also banana rides and water slides for the whole family to enjoy.

5. Attend the New Forest Show – there’s no better time to enjoy New Forest than being there for the New Forest and Hampshire County Show. Happening this year on July 25-27, you and your family can see show jumping, game cookery, and art demonstrations. You can also bring home souvenirs as there are over 500 trade stands that will sell a lot of products.
