Office Depot Foundation - National Backpack Program

It's that time of year and once again the Office Depot is doing its part to make a difference in the lives of children heading back-to-school this year. The Office Depot Foundation's commitment to education is longstanding and through far-reaching programs, like the national backpack program, they are very proud to have made an impact from preschools and kindergartens to university classrooms and laboratories.

Going into its 16th year, The National Backpack program plans to donate 200,000 new school sackpacks in seven colorful designs this year to help children around the world succeed in school. These totally new sackpacks, which were specially designed for the foundation, and are more versatile than backpacks, they also have no foundation markers on them beyond the removable paper tag.

To provide sackpacks to children this year, the Foundation is hosting more than “Back-to-School Celebrations” in cities across the U.S. Thousands of sackpacks also are being donated through Office Depot stores in hundreds of local communities and in collaboration with Office Depot’s Business Solutions Division in select cities. Thousands more are being given to kids through the Office Depot Foundation’s partnerships with organizations such as: the AARP Experience Corps, the National Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) Association, Feed the Children, Food For The Poor, the Kids In Need Foundation, the National Foundation for Women Legislators, Operation Homefront and Samaritan’s Feet International. For the eighth consecutive year, children of the Navajo Nation in Arizona will receive sackpacks.

Getting supplies in the hands of children and families who might not otherwise be able to afford to do so, helps those children to build self-confidence, boost self-esteem and achieve greater success in the classroom – all as a result of being properly prepared for school.

We were sent Office Depots new sackpacks to checkout for ourselves. These sackpacks come in seven different two-color combinations, in kid friendly designs. Sackpacks are made from the same material as backpacks and are are water-resistant and lined to provide extra protection of contents. They also include a few crayons, sharpener, pen, pencil, ruler and eraser.

This is such a wonderful program for all of the families that can't afford to get these supplies themselves.

What an awesome program! I love that they involve other organizations and the community. Getting kids the proper supplies for learning is a very noble aspiration.

I love to support companies that give back in an authentic way. I do a lot of shopping and donating to one of our local thrift stores because it is all volunteer and the proceeds are directly given to three local food banks and it really makes a difference.
