Having babies and small children at home with you all day can lead to a lot of weight gain. In the very least, it can be really tricky to lose the baby weight. Nursing is one of the best ways to get back into shape as it burns so many calories. But we could all do with some toning up as well after a long pregnancy.
There are plenty of activities you can do in the house. Just getting down onto the floor to play with the kids can be quite energetic! You might have a couple of keen movers and dancers in your family. Crank up the volume and dance silly dances together. Jumping and dancing are great ways to burn off calories. It’s all very fun for the kids to be silly with Mommy.
Fresh air and exercise are essential for every member of the family. To get out and about with a baby isn’t as tricky as you think. You don’t need to go very far. And you don’t need an excuse, but it helps to motivate you! You can use a harness to carry baby on your back or your front. Some women like to use a sling so they can nurse on the go too.
If you like to use a pushchair, why not choose a jogger? They are stable enough for you to really pick up the pace and even get back into some running. Best of all, you can take the baby with you, and he can enjoy the view and the air too. When it is colder, use one of the universal footmuffs suitable for Jogger pushchairs. A cold wind can be quite unpleasant for a little one.
Yoga is a great way to start toning up again. And when the kids are driving you crazy, the breathing techniques can help you retain your focus and calm. Wait for about six weeks or so before heading back to a class. Yoga can also be done in your living room. Use an app on your iPad or use YouTube videos streamed to your TV. Your children can also join in.
Babies love to be picked up and see their world from lots of different angles. Check your core muscles are engaged and your posture is good before lifting your little one. Repetitive pick-ups can be a great way to tone those arms and stretch your core. Best of all, you can involve your baby in helping you get fit again. Wearing your fitness gear is also a lot more comfortable when you’re playing with the kids, so it’s a great excuse to workout.
Console games that are controlled by thumbs aren’t my favorite choice for the kids. But when they’re using the Wii and wiggling about, I can’t help but join in! There are some fitness games available too that are quite handy for a quick workout. You can also track your weight that is ideal if you’re trying to shed a few pounds. And you can even weigh the baby every day too!
I think any exercise can be fun for all the family to get involved with. It’s important for parents to stay fit and healthy just to keep up with their kids and join in. What active games do you like to play most?
