Park City is well known for its great skiing, but when families have young children in tow hitting the slopes all day can quickly become tiring. Luckily, Park City offers a wealth of activities and attractions that will keep kids entertained. From tubing to art classes to skating, there are so many options for families looking to occupy their day. Best of all, many of these attractions are just as fun for parents as they are for the kids!
Remember, however, to find a place beforehand that offers easy access to the area's main draws. Park City, fortunately, has plenty of condos and other forms of accommodation that make for a perfect base for enjoying the following attractions.
The Gorgoza Tubing Park is a blast for all members of the family. Joining the tubes together and riding down the slopes is bound to lead to smiles and laughter all around. There are even smaller hills for very young children and the park is an excellent place for kids' birthday parties.
Another great family activity is skating at the Park City Ice Arena. The arena offers skating lessons, including figure skating and hockey, for children, although families can also enjoy an open skate at designated hours. The arena also puts on some great events that are especially fun for children, such as a "Skate with Santa" during the holiday season.
Park City isn't just about outdoor winter activities. The Kimball Art Center in the Old Town, for example, hosts a number of arts and crafts classes for budding Michelangelos. Classes that are a hit with families include painting, ceramics, and sculpture classes. During the holidays, there are also classes for making gingerbread houses, snow globes, and cookies.
Park City Museum
A history museum might not sound like the best way to keep kids entertained, but the Park City Museum isn't your typical museum. For anybody who has ever wanted to feel like they are a part of the Old West, this museum is the place to go. Exhibits that are especially popular with kids include a recreated historic jail cell, a replicated saloon, and costumes and displays about many of the colorful characters that make up Park City's history.
Utah Olympic Park
An exceptional museum highlighting the 2002 Winter Olympics, the Utah Olympic Park is a great way to learn more about the skiing history that has made Park City world famous. The view down the ski jumps is especially awe inspiring, as are the luge and bobsled tracks. While the Olympic Park is a training center for America's top winter athletes, there are great summer and winter activities and courses geared towards children.
One thing parents never have to worry about when bringing children to Park City is running out of things to do. Although skiing may be Park City's claim to fame, as the above list shows this Utah destination offers so much more than just hitting the slopes. Whether in summer or winter, Park City has a plethora of attractions to entertain kids of all ages.
