Bringing a new baby home always means big changes whether it’s your first or fifth child. With our new little additions room set up, fresh paint on the walls, and new flooring at our feet, I'm still in a that cleaning zone. However, I have been hesitating a lot when it comes to my choice of cleaners. Times have changed and we know a lot more than we did when I had my last baby. *Did you know that more than 80,000 chemicals available in the United States have never been fully tested for their toxic effects on our health and environment? On top of that I’m sure most of us do know that now that Scientists have linked exposure to toxic chemicals to many health risks, such as Cancer, Alzheimer’s, learning disabilities, asthma, birth defects, and various reproductive problems. So the question is, why would anyone want these harsh cleaners/chemicals around themselves, pets and children? I don’t, which is why I have teamed up with Seventh Generation to help spread awareness about the importance of chemical reform in the United States.
What is Chemical Reform?
Toxic-Freedom Fighters Unite!
The Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) was passed in 1976, and unlike other major environmental laws, has never been updated. What this means is, since that time tens of thousands of potentially harmful chemicals continue to be used without proper testing and without disclosure by the companies that produce them.
If this bothers you as much as it bothers me. You can take a stand by signing Seventh Generation’s petition to urge Congress to reevaluate the Toxic Substances Control Act for the first time since 1976. Seventh Generation is passionate about this petition and their passion for a toxin free environment shows in their product line.
The Seventh Generation line of products provides healthier solutions for the air, surfaces, fabrics, pets and people within your home–and for the community and environment outside of it. From kitchen cleaners to diapers, their products offer a cleaner, more sustainable option for keeping your home, and family happier and healthier.
Toxic-Freedom Fighters Unite!
After doing my reading and research, my eyes have really been open to not only what dangerous chemicals I may be introducing to my home, but what harmful chemicals we are being exposed to outside of the home in our schools, malls etc. I have pledged to become a Toxic-Freedom Fighter and signed Seventh Generations petition because it’s important to me that for our children, we make sure chemicals are regulated better, further testing is done and that we clearly know and understand the risks and non-risks. We don’t need the harsh chemicals, when it has been proven by companies like Seventh Generation, that we can get comparable cleaning products, paper products etc. etc. without the risk. Without the risk our health, our families health and our environment.... #FightToxins
Won’t you join me, become a Toxic-Freedom Fighter and sign the Seventh Generation petition to reevaluate the Toxic Substances Control Act? Remember this is to change the standards now. Just think about it… 80,000 synthetic chemicals have been introduced into the market since the Toxic Substances Control Act was passed in 1976, the EPA has required testing on less than 10% of those. Help make a change and click the banner below to sign the petition. If 100,000 signatures are obtained by April 24th, 2014 the petition will be brought to Congress. Please also consider sharing the petition.
