Last month I decided instead of just talking about it, we were going to take some action and add my son to our mobile plan. This wasn't a decision we took lightly, first and foremost we had to find a cheap wireless plan, preferably non-contracted. This way if my son lost, broke, or simply lost the privilege of owning a phone, I wasn't stuck paying a monthly bill or fee to opt out of a contract.
While it is becoming more of a necessity, I still look at a tween or teen owning a phone (especially when paid for by the parent) as a privilege. After weighing out of options carefully I found it important for my son to have a way to contact me anytime, anyplace, if an emergency should arise. I also thought it would be good for him to have a little entertainment on his half hour bus ride to and then again form, school. And what if there was an emergency in route?!
Back in June, I, myself opted into the Walmart Family Mobile plan. For just $39.88 per month, I receive unlimited talk, text and web. Although this was already a major savings for me, the real savings came when adding additional lines for just $34.88 per line, also on an unlimited plan with NO CONTRACT!
For less than I was paying on my previous plan, per line, I was now able to get better service, affordable pricing, and give my son the gift he's been waiting for - a Concord phone and wireless service. All while STILL saving money!
One of my major concerns with providing my child with a cell phone was internet access and security. I wanted to make sure I was aware of the phone calls being made and be able to control internet access.
As the primary account holder on our Wal-Mart Family Mobile Plan I have the ability to manage access for other lines on the account by limiting how many minutes can be used, blockage usage at certain times, setting up numbers that are never allowed to be dialed and most importantly block adult web content!
Anticipating a monthly bill is always stressful. And I have to admit beyond electric, the bill I’ve always dreaded most was definitely are cell phone bill. Between taxes, fees, miscellaneous charges and outrageous prices for service in general, I never knew what to expect. With Wal-Mart Family Mobile I always know exactly what my next bill is going to be. And, bonus, I get text alerts in advance reminding me when my bill is due and the amount due. As a busy mom any reminder is always welcome.
With an average savings already of nearly $100.00, not including what we will save once the rest of the family is added on, I’ve been able to get a head start on Christmas shopping! It’s been like money in the bank and money that will surely come in handy this holiday season.
And remember, the Walmart Family Mobile Plan is a post-paid service. You're billed after your month of use, so to get started all you need is a new or an unlocked GSM phone and a $25 Family Mobile SIM card, available at your local Walmart, for activation.
