Halloween Recipes: Junk Cake and Creepy Goblin Punch #Shop #SpookyCelebration

Are you looking for a fun treat for your Halloween celebration or often left wondering what to do with all that left over Halloween candy? OK, well maybe that last part is a stretch. Even with four kids and four bags full of Halloween candy we don’t usually find ourselves with many leftovers, but that doesn’t mean we don’t like to put a twist on our favorite treats.

This month we did a little Halloween pre-gaming – it’s hard to pass up the yummy bags of chocolate lining store shelves this time of year – and got to work doing a little Halloween baking, utilizing all our favorite chocolate bars and even treating ourselves to some spooky Halloween punch.

"Halloween Junk Cake" has come to be expected by my husband and kids every October. It’s a fun and simple way to incorporate all our favorite candy into one delicious dessert.

Ingredients:

  • ¼ tsp. vanilla flavoring
  • 2 sticks, unsalted butter
  • 1 cup light brown sugar
  • 2 cups flour
  • 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • Your favorite chocolate candy bars, in pieces.
Directions:

Pre-heat oven to 350

In medium sized mixing bowl cream together vanilla, sugar and butter. With well washed hands, slowly add in your flour combing with hands making sure to clear the sides of the bowl.

Press dough into an 8in baking pan; cook for 30 minutes or until golden brown.

Melt chocolate chips over the stove (or in the microwave) stirring frequently. Pour melted chocolate over the top of your cake; spread in even layer across. Add bite sized pieces of your favorite candies (we used Twix, Snickers, Milky Ways and 3 Musketeer Bars) over the top. Cool completely.

This cake can be sliced into bars for simple serving. The kids really enjoy this alternate way to enjoy all their favorites. For a more festive look try topping with orange and brown M&Ms!

Next we moved on to a drink sure to be a hit at any Halloween party. Goblin Punch, as I call it, is a combination of gelatin for a slimy layered look paired with two favorites, 7UP and fruit punch. The carbonation from the 7UP adds a nice bubbling effect.

Ingredients:
  • 1 package lime gelatin
  • 1 bottle 7UP
  • 1 bottle Hawaiian Punch, Fruit Punch

Directions:

In a medium saucepan bring 2 cups water to a boil. Transfer to a bowl. Add gelatin and stir until gelatin is dissolved. Cover and chill 4 hours or overnight.

To serve, pour about 1/2 cup of 7UP and 1/4 cup fruit punch into a cup. Add one or two spoonfuls of chilled gelatin and top with ice eyeballs.

Halloween is one of my favorite holidays. I adore seeing all the children in their costumes and have a blast decorating with all my creepy, spooky, and disgusting decor.

The Halloween junk candy cake looks really yummy but I would especially like to try the goblin punch. It would be great for Halloween but it looks so yummy I would make it other times too, just with a different name

I know it's not Halloween, but I could make the "junk cake" right now and be perfectly happy! Maybe minus the skulls. :)
