Well we’ve made it half way through our first week back to school! The kids and I are still struggling to find that new balance to our routine, but I’m confident that by the weeks end we will be in full swing once again. Last week, we were busy with last minute physicals, open house, and haircuts. This week it’s more about relaxing and finding our groove.
One thing about the back to school season that always hits us hard is the cost. Supplies are so essential to a productive year, yet in these hard times can be a burden on many families. I was touched this year to see so many great businesses and organizations focusing on getting supplies in the hands of children and families who might not otherwise be able to afford to do so. Their efforts are helping children all over build self-confidence, boost self-esteem, and achieve greater success in the classroom – all as a result of being properly prepared for school.
One of the many amazing back-to-school partnerships this year come to us from the Boys and Girls Club of America (BGCA) and Disney, who have partnered to launch the Tools for Back-to-School initiative, helping get donations out to students. This initiative features a pop-quiz style game, where supplies are donated for correct answers scored. It’s a simple, fun, and informative way to get you and your children involved in giving back.
For every five answers you get right you’ll know you’ve just help set the tone for a student to have a productive school year. And with your help I’m confident BGCA and Disney will meet their donation goal of giving away 40,000 supply kits!
The Boys and Girls Club of America has already positively impacted the lives of many children and I salute them in their mission to enable all young people, especially those who need them most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens. It’s a sobering statistic to see each year; 1 million students fail to graduate high school. But it does prove, it is increasingly important to support today’s youth and the work the BGCA does.
The BGCA only wants to help improve our youth's path and they know success starts with a successful school career. This year the BGCA, is doing their best to make this year the best school year possible for everyone, and are offering different educational content and tip sheets for parents to download and utilize right from their website!
Help the BGCA and Disney reach their goal by participating in the pop-quiz style game now through August 31st. And remember to spread the word. The more people that play, the more supplies that will be donated!
