Walmart's Family Mobile Provides Families with Unlimited Plans at Affordable Prices #Cbias #Shop

As a family of six I’ve tried my hardest to put off the inevitable, cell phones for the kids, but as my own wireless contract comes an end I’ve begun to realize if I don’t find a cheap wireless plan for the family now, I’ll be trapped for at least another 2 years.

The base rate between my plan and my husband’s, now stands at around $150.00 for an unlimited data plan including 1500 talk minutes. If we added a third device and upgraded to the family plan, somehow we would be making a jump to nearly $250 a month for unlimited service before taxes - and remember that’s just for three of us. While I understand it’s our choice to opt for unlimited service, I don’t want the stress of worrying about my teens going over their limit, nor do I want to be looking up what we've already used anytime I want to send a photo or text. There had to be a better option out there for families who simply can’t afford hundreds of dollars per months.

Walmart Family Mobile

From time to time I’ve wondered about a no-contract service, especially when thinking about giving my children their own phones. I honestly have anxiety when thinking about them losing their phone and having to pay to replace them because I’m stuck in a contract regardless.

When I was introduced to Walmart's Family Mobile service, it sounded too good to be true. Simple and straight forward, Walmart Family Mobile allows its user the choice of a variety of phones (with pricing for every budget) including the hottest smartphones like the Galaxy 4S and iPhone 5. In fact, you don’t even need to purchase a new phone; you can simply use your current (unlocked) GSM phone.

The Family Mobile unlimited plan is just $40 per month for your first line and $35 per month each additional line. For us this would equal a savings of nearly $140 a month!!! And once my youngest three are ready for phones, well, I can’t even begin to imagine the savings.

How it works

Once I had my new T-Mobile Galaxy S2 in-hand, I headed to my local Walmart to purchase a starter kit for $25 which included my new SIM card. You can then have your phone activated right there in-store. Since my store was a bit busy this day, I decided to just go home and activate my phone online.

After sliding my new SIM card into place, I set up an account online. I entered my SIM card  and activation numbers, along with my personal information and driver’s license number  and my phone was activated. I opted for a brand new number since my contract has another month left, but you can transfer an existing number as long as you're ready to  your current plan connected to that number. I should also note that the $25 I paid for the starter kit was ALL it cost to get me turned on, talking, texting and surfing the web, since Family Mobile is a postpaid service.

With a Postpaid service instead of having to run out and top up our minutes each month, we are billed after we've used the service. I should be receiving my first bill two to three weeks after my service was first activated and I will be notified via text message when my bill is due.

Savings, Savings, Savings!

I feel a little silly having spent so much time basically throwing money out the window. The phones and service on the Walmart Family Mobile Network have so far stacked up with the big name competitors, only now I’m saving money for the important stuff, while still being able to provide my children with the technology the world craves.

Powered by T-Mobile my data speeds are comparable if not better than my current provider (really) and I’ve yet to drop a call or udder the words “can you hear me now?”

I’m honestly not sure that at my current plan rates I would have ever been able to provide cell service for a family of six. With #FamilyMobileSaves my family can stay connected at work, school, or play and feel smart knowing we aren’t paying more for equal (or less.)

While this truly seems like it may be the best wireless service for us, I'll be back next month to update you with our final thoughts and a tally of our true savings. Stay tuned!

I've read so much about the Walmart family mobile plan. I'm determined to get that done this summer. We need another way of getting cell service; my bill is $70 and I don't even have data. I had planned to switch a few months ago and, well, just haven't gotten around to it.

Once our kids are old enough we'll definitely be checking out this plan. Mobile plans for my husband and I are expensive enough. I can't imagine adding the kids on it too!

It's always good to see what's out there--we have a Walmart not to far from us and I will have the hubby check it out--thanks for sharing that there are cost effective alternatives!

This sounds like a great deal, but it will be a long time before I will be considering a family plan again, no teens in the house!

I didn't realize they had a family plan. Contracts are no fun, so this sounds like the way to go.

I am really in need of a phone upgrade and I like the way that phone looks. Now Hubby and I really need to get serious about shopping around.

I think the no contract option is the best and love that they have a great family plan.

Thank you for this great information. My ten year old has been asking for a cell phone but there are a lot of things to consider including price and online safety.

I read this 2x because I just didn't believe it. First of all I hate having a contract and Verizon will now force me to upgrade when my contract is up. Right now I don't have a "smartphone" because it was going to be an add'l $30 a month whether or not I used it. This sounds great and I cannot wait for my contract to be up! THANKS!

Oy! I've been feeling the pain with just four of us in the family on contract - I can't even imagine how we'd pull off six! Honestly, I've been looking for something better but never thought to look at the no contract plans. I'm surprised they are compatible with the tech phones my kids "must have". Unlimited on top of that and such savings - that's a win-win in any Mom's book!
