Pool Safety Tips for the Holiday Weekend and a Swimways Coupon

I am a Swimways Ambassador. No compensation was provided for this post.

The long awaited unofficial start to summer is finally here. Yes, I’m of course talking about Memorial Day! And with the long holiday weekend upon us, I know many families will be celebrating with a dip in the pool, lake, or even the ocean.

While swimming can provide tons of fun and exercise too, SwimWays and I want to make sure you and your family keeps water safety in the mind this holiday weekend.  Please take a moment to take a look at Mario Vittone’s - leading expert on immersion hypothermia, drowning, sea survival, and safety at sea - National Drowning Prevention Alliance’s Pool Safety Tips before heading out this weekend.

  1. Never leave a child unattended near water in a pool, tub, bucket or ocean.  There is no substitute for adult supervision.
  2. Designate a “Water Watcher” to maintain constant watch over children in the pool during gatherings.
  3. The home should be isolated from the pool with a fence at least 60” tall, with a self-closing, self-latching gate.  The gate should open away from the pool, and should never be propped open.
  4. Doors and windows should be alarmed to alert adults when opened.  Doors should be self-closing and self-latching.

I really like the idea with the alarm. I have to share that with my sister since she has a pool and her grandchildren there often

These are great tips, it only takes a second for a speedy toddler to be in that pool!

Thanks for the tips and the coupon - I need some new floaties for ME so I can lounge away the day in the pool in peace.

These are great pool safety tips. It is so sad that every year small children drown at home in swimming pools. Swim ways is great for helping families to make sure of pool safety.

Having bought a house with a pool last year we also included an ALARM TURTLE with our pool safety set up. We added an extra interior fence and alarmed both fence gates with alarms which are wired INTO our home security system. In addition to that, we bough a system called SAFETY TURTLE POOL ALARM. It is a bracelet our toddler wears that sounds an alarm if submerged. We did this because in addition to the pool, we have 2 water feature ponds on the property.

I don't think these tips can be emphasized or passed on enough! Thank you so much for reminding everyone just how important these are, not just during summer ~ but year round!
