The Amazing Spider-Man Movie, App and Family Fun #Cbias #SpiderManWMT

#SpiderManWMT

Being the only girl in my family and then having three boys of my own, superhero love was really part of my upbringing with Spider-Man reigning supreme. My family has been excitedly anticipating the release of The Amazing Spider-Man on Blu-Ray/DVD/Ultra Violet Combo Package available November 9th.  For those of you as excited as I to own this feature, Walmart will be carrying an exclusive Mask gift set which when pre-ordered grants you exclusive early access to The Amazing Spider-Man by streaming it to your television or computer up to 10 days earlier than the release date through Vudu

This wasn’t the only reason we were so interested in the set though. This exclusive movie gift set also includes a trigger for the newly released Augment Reality App Web-Slinger, which I had downloaded a few days ago via iTunes -also available on Google Play. I was excited to finally see all that it offered.

web-slinger

This Friday we planned a one of our special family movie nights only this time dedicated to all things Spider-Man. To make the night even more special we would be watching – for the first time- the Amazing Spider-Man. The kids were so happy to hear what the nights "feature" would be, I had to head to Walmart and pick up some extra-special treats for a night of themed fun. Typically the kids groan when I tell them they have to go on a shopping trip with Mom, but this time I was armed with my iPad and the Amazing Spider-Man Augmented Reality app. This way while I was shopping they could be on the lookout for trigger points, keeping them occupied and entertained.

The first thing we spotted was the Spider-Man themed Marketside pizza which would not only make the perfect meal for the night, but the box contained a trigger point which when scanned with an iPad, iPhone, or android device created a virtual 3D world and brought our favorite villain, the Lizard, to life right in front of us. And I mean it, it was truly life-like you can actually interact with the characters!

I also found that when you combine a Marketside pizza trigger with the Blu-ray box trigger you can engage Spidey and the Lizard in battle. If that wasn’t cool enough, the app also allows users to star in their very own Spider-Man comic and share your comic stardom with friends and family. What made this feature particularly interesting to the kids and I,was that to unlock additional pages of your comic book, you have to find 3 posters containing trigger points throughout Walmart. It gave it a scavenger hunt like feel, which my boys really enjoyed.

Augment Reality App

Now that we were familiar with the app and had dinner in the cart, it was time to see what else we could pick up to make our night even more special. My boys suggested seeing what was available in the toys section. Funny enough, after trying on a few masks and battling through aisles it was my daughter who decided she had to have a Spider-Man costume for the evening. And for a girl obsessed with all things princess I couldn't deny her a superhero moment – girls can certainly be superheroes too! We finished up with our shopping and headed home (you can check out my entire shopping trip on Google+) to pop-in dinner and get started the fun started.

With pizza on the menu for dinner we needed dessert. I had already picked up some spider-man cheez-its, popcorn, and chips as movie snack, but that didn’t seem like enough for such an exciting night. We needed some cupcakes as well!

I gave up perfection long ago and traded it in for allowing the kids to help in the kitchen. While we waited for our pizza to bake I gave the kids a quick lesson in decorating and we went to work making some special “spidey-cakes.” I really love that my boys can have just as much fun in the kitchen as my daughter – and they're pretty good cake decorators too!

Finally it was time to sit down and enjoy are evening. We enjoyed our pizza and cupcakes and took to the living room to watch The Amazing Spider-Man!

Spiderman, cupcakes

The Amazing Spider-Man movie had more of a modern twist with a few humorous scenes that had my boys laughing. Although they enjoyed previous versions of Spider-Man this title really captured their attention. It’s not often we can get through an entire movie without interruptions and the occasional argument over a snack or blanket. I might have them watch it every night!

Join in the fun by pre-order your copy of The Amazing Spider-Man (PG-13) at Walmart today and downloading the Amazing Spider-Man Augmented Reality app on iTunes or Google Play

How fun. My Grandson would just adore those cupcakes. He also loves to help in the kitchen. I'm not sure if he knows about the app. I will tell him.
