Freshly laundered white linen sheets, subdued lighting, a clean fresh smell signifies heaven. My bedroom is a sanctuary. When I lie down, whatever has happened during the day vanishes as I breathe in the scent of a special candle and enjoy the moment. I know the design of my bedroom can definitely affect my mood.
There was a time when I was a little less fussy about the room in which I slept and for many years had run my business by setting up the office in my bedroom. Often I would literally fall off the chair and crawl into bed taking all my stress with me. The room was polluted by the toxicity of my computer, printer and assorted other machinery and more often than not the room was a mess of paper, dirty coffee cups and the detritus of a day’s work. I made little distinction between work and home and I look back and consider how stupid that approach actually was.
It’s quite extraordinary how bedroom design can have a radical impact on your mood and general sense of well-being. Living stressful lives and being constantly bombarded by information, color, sound etc. the need for a quiet space where we can simply relax, stay calm and un-stimulated (as appropriate of course) is probably more important than it has ever been and luxury bedding can really make you feel like a princess.
Enjoy Egyptian Cotton Bed linen And Sleep Well
In history, however, sleeping in the same room as lots of other people was literally a life saver. When castles were draughty and mud huts had little insulation, to snuggle up close to the fire where you had cooked and spent most of the evening would make a considerable difference to the ambient temperature. Body heat would also impact significantly. Nowadays this is no longer appropriate and most people require little encouragement to open a window to reach a comfortably cool temperature for a good night’s sleep, and then lie back on cool Egyptian cotton sheets.
Bearing in mind most of us are also awash with possessions it is very easily to accumulate junk and the bedroom chair soon resembles a piece of contemporary sculpture after a few days and can really have a less than pleasant effect on the look and feel of a bedroom. Therefore when revamping a bedroom design then it really does require some consideration as to what the room will be used for. It’s a golden opportunity to make some decisions, change things, maybe even banish the television for example.
My room is at the back of the house on the ground floor; I designed it to exploit the stunning views upstairs. Therefore it is always cool and a pleasure to step into at night. One side has utilised the under stairs area with a full range of wardrobes which were designed by me to take every conceivable object so that when I was in a rush I could lay my hands on belts, scarves, the right shoes and all point in between. As a consequence there is a place for everything and that has contributed to my room looking pretty smart most of the time.
I invested in some Egyptian cotton of the highest quality fully combed cotton which makes use of 400 threads in its weave which contributes a cool feel. It has to be white of course and I decided no bold colours for me this time and I went for a very neutral bone which shows off some stunning black and white framed beach scenes which I took myself.
