Gift Options for Tween Boys

Over the years it has becoming increasingly hard to buy for the little men in my life – who aren’t quite that little anymore. After asking around I found that preteen boys seem to be the hardest to buy for on many holiday and birthday lists. Of course, a gift card allows the recipient the choice of picking out the perfect gift, but when it comes to your own kids a bunch of wrapped gift cards under the tree probably won’t go over so well.  So what are good gift options? Let’s take a look

Video Games systems
Yes, the Xbox, PS3 and Wii still reign supreme and are gift that are sure to please. As an additional option if the child in your life already owns one or more systems there are many gaming accessories that will go over just as well and are more affordable.

The sporting good section of your local retailer can lead you to many great gift options; all you need to keep in mind is what the child is into.
  • Basketball hoops – Large or small can provide fun, exercise, and skill building.
  • Bikes and Skateboards – A gift the never gets old.  Both items seem to frequently show up on my own children’s holiday lists.
  • Paintball guns – Let’s face it as much as a paintball gun is, as a tween it might be a little too much for them to handle.  However, you can now find some great kid friendly options by JT Splatmaster that are low impact product that shoots color filled round Ammo resulting in a Splat. The Ammo is 100% biodegradable, non toxic, resists stains, and easily washes away with water.
  • Sporting equipment- This includes anything from a baseball glove, hockey stick, or tennis rack to protective gear.
lazer tag games typically include two guns allowing two people to play at once. Each player wears sensors – also included- and the pack will rumble or light-up when a player has been “hit”

Remote controlled anything
Anything controlled with a remote and geared toward higher age ranges can be super fun as well. Boys can race cars up the street, in the yard or take their helicopter up to the park and show it off.

ipod – iTunes
Preteens are really in a transitional stage and this is when music tends to play a big part in their lives. An iPod provides a source or music and technology all in one. If they already own and iPod or other Apple product then a iTunes gift card or earbuds can make a great stocking stuffer.

Creative ideas
If the child likes to be creative, model car kits, chemistry sets and Ant farms can be a lot of fun for tween boys on a rainy day.

Why tween boys may not be the easiest to buy for, with a little thought the perfect preteen gifts can be found outside of a gift card.

It's true. The older boys get the harder they are to buy for.
