Fall Family Fun; Together Counts

Fun

In this time of technology, we as families have become less active and started spending less time with each other. I know my family is one hundred percent guilty of this. We used to do all kinds of things together and now it seems like everyone has a favorite system or gadget. On a typical day we often find ourselves separated in different rooms, lounging around, doing our own thing. It’s been really important for me over the past few months not only to get my kids’ active and outdoors more, but for us to start doing more activities together as a family. And with the fall season upon us, it’s a beautiful time of year to get outside and get active together with a little inspiration from Together Counts.

Together Counts is a nationwide program inspiring active and healthy living. The principle behind the program is Energy Balance, which means balancing the calories we consume with the calories we burn. This is a first of its kind coalition bringing together over 200 retailers, food and beverage manufacturers, restaurants, sporting goods and insurance companies, trade associations and non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and professional sports organizations for one purpose – getting more families eating and active together, with a message of moderation.

It doesn’t matter too much to me what we are doing, as long as we are doing it together.  With the cooler temps of the fall season it’s easier than ever to get the kids together and head to the park for a game of football, head out to the back yard for some basketball or family fun on the trampoline. All activities we enjoy but are sometimes too much for the kids to handle, in the hot heat of a Florida summer.

Fall brings with it a lot of natural beauty and I find it one of the best seasons for a walk through the neighborhood, taking in all of those beautiful fall colors. However, I also like to include the kids in our decisions for family activities. Since I know they love their video games, with the additional of systems that get you up and moving like the Wii, Xbox Kinect or Playstation Move. We set like to set time weekly for family game challenges. I have to admit these create some of my favorite memories – I might be a tad competitive ;)

Whatever you like to do, try and find a way to incorporate the entire family. Dinner together as a family is something we never miss. A tradition from my own childhood that I am glad stuck with me.  It’s those little moments that create memories that will last a lifetime!

It's definitely important to spend quality family time together. Now remind me of that when my son gets his sheep for Christmas and I have to help him take care of them.

Everybody looks like they are having lots of fun, me & my best friend took the grandbabies to Dollywood a couple weeks ago, even though I suffered physically I don't regret going and spending time with my babies

We count on weekends to reconnect, we're so darn busy during the week, we'd likely forget each others names without family time on weekends!
