When it comes to kids clothing I see a lot of the same. Last week even spotted a few of my kids outfits while watching a T.V comedy series. It’s seems like where ever I look it’s just more of the same. I like to find retailers or boutiques that stand out some and have a bit more to offer. One of my more recent finds was MatildaJane Clothing (MJC).
In building MJC, founder, chief designer and CEO Denise DeMarchis wanted to be able to help connect people though her designs – colorful, timeless, and playful ensembles that are age-appropriate and help reflect the personality of the child. One customer wrote to say that each piece of clothing in MJC’s collections “represents love, joy, and happiness … three gifts you always give, all the time, to my child and our family.”
With whimsical colorful designs and fresh looks for each season, MJC has a look you can feel proud about including collections for girls, boys, and women. We were sent four wonderful pieces which came together to make for one adorable and stylish outfit or could be paired off separately.
The Redwood cardigan ($42) is a warm golden red tone perfect for the chillier fall mornings and can be paired with many different styles. We put it together with the Marie Top and Scotty Skirt.
The Marie Top ($32) is sure to be a staple of the season. A cotton jersey in a pure, creamy off-white, this simple tee is endlessly mixable and match able with any number of your little one’s favorite MJC pieces. The Scotty Skirt ($46) features adorable dog print in a yellowish color pairing nicely with or without the Mac leggings - The legging under the skirt will be great once the temps start dropping but, can of course be worn separately.
The Mac leggings ($30) are another simple wardrobe staple with a little extra MJC flair. Featuring ruffled cuffs, a geometric diamond pattern, bright colors and a super-soft slub knit, these leggings are great for playing, dancing, jumping, and every activity in between.
I couldn’t be happier with the way each individual item complimented each other. The quality was outstanding and I couldn’t help but be impressed with their packaging. I did a lot of online shopping this back-to-school season and I was surprised with how many shirts I had to unwrap from little plastic baggies. At MJC, clothes are packaged in mesh like bags with a button closure with brand name and size etched on the outside.
The Mom in me could help but think of all the other ways I could use and re-use these bags around the home. And I’m sure as a company that cares, that is exactly what MJC had in mind.
A key guiding principle at MJC is the company’s strong focus on “extreme generosity” and random acts of kindness. As an extension of MJC’s desire to give back (such as to various children’s charities and orphanages, or the company’s pledge with Habitat for Humanity to build a home for a deserving family), the company also actively involves its customers in ongoing charitable giving efforts – most recently, MJC asked customers where to donate in its “Spread the Love” initiative. The annual campaign involved surprise giveaways to 100+ deserving families, as well as smaller giveaways to 300 individuals, a $50,000 expression of MJC’s heartfelt thanks to its loyal customer base
Staying Connected with you:
Although Matilda Jane Clothing works hard to connect with you keeping up with more than 50,000 Facebook fans, a thriving blog, and a website that attracts more than 70,000 unique visitors monthly, the company has bucked the trend and chosen not to have an e-commerce store. MJC sales are made directly though a Trunk Keeper, a representative who gets to know her customers personally. The exclusive sale of clothing by Trunk Keepers is a wonderful direct selling model through which Denise is able to pay forward business opportunities for entrepreneurial women driven by creativity and relationship building.
