B2S - EasyTwist Kids Frames by Aspex Review

Heading back to school this year we have one extra item on our list to think about other then clothing and supplies, and that is eyewear. My youngest son has very poor vision and is nearly blind in his right eye. He is at the age were the novelty of wearing glasses has worn off and if he has to wear glasses, he wants them to have a certain appeal. As the Mom paying for the glasses, I too care about style but quality is a bigger factor. As you can imagine or might even know, children can be very rough on things, and eye glasses are no exception.

This is were the trouble starts, because glasses can start to get pricey when your kid( OK, my kid) is breaking them on what seems like a weekly bases. There are so many brands of kids eyewear out there how do I know which is best? Well, for me it was all trial and error. And then I found EasyTwist frames by Aspex Eyewear.

What so special about EasyTwists? EasyTwist frames are the most flexible frames. EasyTwist is made of a “memory metal” called Trillaston that is highly elastic and immediately recovers its shape, even after wrapping the metal 360 degrees around your finger! They are very resistant to stress, shock, corrosion and temperature changes. Not only will these frames take a beating, but, they are available in great kid friendly colors and styles.

Features overview:

  • EasyTwist are made with Trilaston, a proprietary memory metal innovation, developed by Aspex Eyewear, known for its elasticity and unsurpassed shape recovery properties. This copper aluminum based alloy offers tremendous advantages and value over other nickel/titanium based memory metals currently on the market.
  • Whereas Nickel/Titanium frames will eventually lose their flexibility and shape- retention, EasyTwist’s frames withstand the test of time and bounce back into shape even after extensive periods of use. In addition, due to their unique molecular composition, EasyTwist frames are more resistant to stress, shock, corrosion and extreme changes in temperature.
  • The memory metal capabilities of Trilaston also allow it to accept a wider range of finishes than its nickel/titanium counterparts. Furthermore, while nickel/titanium frames are known for losing their finishes and becoming dull, EasyTwist’s Trilaston frames never lose their luster.
  • Trilaston also offers a health benefit not found in other memory metals. Specifically, the absence of nickel in the composition of the alloy used in the EasyTwist line results in the creation of frames that are hypoallergenic so as not to cause adverse skin reactions.

One of our biggest issues with my sons frames is that they are constantly being twisted out of shape. It wasn't until the end of the school year -and multiple trips to the optometrist to have his frames bent back and tighten- did my son inform me, that his friends love to "play" with his glasses on the bus...sigh. Although, at this point we went over, again, the fact his glasses are not a toy and I don't want anyone else touching them, I can guarantee he will be passing them around again this year. For this reason and many others we decided to go with EasyTwist frames this back-to-school season.

After viewing the EasyTwist by Aspex kids line, my son and I decided to go with a slightly chunkier frame with a design he liked, and I really loved.

Most EasyTwist styles come in a range of colors per model #. So far these frames have held up well. And you can be sure I gave them a good "twisting" before deciding EasyTwist was the way to go.

If your interested in purchasing or learning more about EasyTwist frame check the store locater for an optical center near you.

My daughter used to get hit in the face all the time when she played soccer. I wish we had a pair of those then!

These are great! My 5 year old grandson has had to wear glasses for the past couple years. We'll check into these. Thanks for reviewing!

What a great idea! Not only would these frames be perfect for the kids, they'd be great for my biggest kid...the Hubs! He's terrible on his frames!

These would be great for my daughter. She's had her glasses for a few months now & is in need of a second pair that are okay for sports.
