My Son's Eye Update and Cheap Glasses Finds

Last week I made brief mention of the loss of eyesight in my youngest sons right eye - I would like to thank everyone who inquired about what was going on and how he is doing.

See when my son was about 3 or 4 we noticed his eye turned in slightly, we took him to his doctor whom referred him out. After his initial exam with the opthamologist  he suggested surgery, but I wasn't sold. He had a hard time reading the charts at the time because he didn't know all his letters and the shape charts pictures really didn't look like the pictures they were portraying. I took him for a second opinion and saw him read that chart pretty well, as did the second doctor who saw no need for surgery. We got him some cute prescription glasses and were on our way.

I adore him in glasses!
He went for his yearly check ups and an updates on his glasses, but overall things were going smooth - until last year. We took him for his annual exam and I sat by his side. This time however when asked to read or see anything from his right eye his answer was I can't see that. We even found that he was unable to see in 3D vision. His eye sight went from so so in that eye, to barely there. So new glasses were given and back to the specialist we were sent. There is only one pediatric specialist around and it took us almost an entire year to finally get in with him between his scheduling and insurance issues.

It seems that even with his updated eyeglasses his vision is almost gone from that eye. We went yesterday to have a special test preformed on his optic nerve and had him fitted for special lenses that we pray will actually help this time. Next step is the surgery to strengthen his eye muscle, however it will not help his vision..sigh

At least now we know what we are up against, but with all these prescription changes and my sons age, we have racked up quite a cost when it comes to eyeglasses. I am thankful to have Glasses USA whom provides me cheap eyeglasses that are still stylish and made well. Their small men's frames fit my son perfect!

GlassesUSA.com even has a virtual mirror making it easy to find the right style frames for your face without having to physically try them on.

It's so frustrating when you have to wait forever to get in with a specialist, and jump through all kinds of hoops for insurance. I'm glad you finally got to see the doctor, and I hope the special lenses are able to help your son's vision. Those glasses do look adorable on him!

He is an adorable boy... especially with the glasses. I hope the new lenses are a help for him.

Sorry to hear about your son's loss of eyesight. My thoughts and prayers are with the two. Hopefully the new doctor will be able to help your son before any additional eyesight is lost. Best of luck to the two of you.
