Olympus, the Japanese makers of quality cameras since 1936, recently launched a series of its new digital cameras. The latest batch of unveiled photographic devices is composed of the easy-to-use Smart series cameras, the heavy-duty Tough series shooters, the versatile strike-anywhere Traveller series with super-zoom capabilities, and the advanced Creator series of point-and-shooters.
With the Olympus Smart series, everything is as simple as possible. Taking great pictures without any hassle, and using every bit of the Olympus experience and expertise to their advantage, the Smart series might be technical masterpieces internally, but outside they are also incredibly fun, and easy, to use. A click is all it takes, because your Smart does the rest.
Slim and compact, these entry-level cameras are packed with the basic functions, with a 14-megapixel CCD and up to 5x optical zoom. The built-in Magic Filter lets you create cool effects on your photos, while the DIS (high sensitivity) image stabilization helps you avoid blurred shots.
The VG-150, VG-160, and VG-170 (with high-intensity flash that allows you to take good photos even under low light) are great for everyday use, whether taking stills or shooting videos. The VH-210 is the trendy compact that comes in eye-catching fruit-color themes housing a 3-inch 460K-dot LCD screen. The VR-350, meanwhile, features a slim 12.5x optical zoom lens with a focal range of wide-angle 24-mm to 300-mm telephoto powered by a 16-megapixel CCD sensor.
The TG-320, TG-620, and TG-820 are tough cameras that can withstand any rough and tumble thrown their way, featuring water-proofing up to 10 meters, dust-proofing, shock-proofing up to a two-meter drop, and freeze-proofing up to -10-degrees Celsius,
Olympus Traveller series
Boasting exceptional blur-free image quality for every shooting situation, the Traveller series is designed to meet your demands of being on the road. With high-powered zoom lenses, HD video capabilities, cutting-edge Multi-motion Movie IS and new iHS technologies, plus the high-performance Dual IS image stabilization feature that prevents camera-shakes from affecting telephoto shooting, all packed into compact lightweight bodies, these cameras are second only to the stunning pictures you will take while pursuing your dream trip - wherever it may lead you.
The SP-620UZ, SP-720UZ, and SP-810UZ all take superb shots from macro of up to 1 cm to super-telephoto of 864 mm. the latter also being the world’s smallest compact digital camera with a 36x optical zoom lens, making it the all-in-one model that is able to capture images of a very wide area, from indoor to landscape shooting. The SZ-14, for its part, is a stylish, compact ultra-zoom digital camera incorporating a 24x optical ultra-zoom lens with a 14-megapixel CCD sensor on a three-inch, 460K-dot high-definition LCD for clearer viewing. The SH-25MR and SZ-31MR models, on the other hand, feature up to 24x optical zoom and even have built-in GPS.
Olympus Creator series
The XZ-1 is a top-notch camera that’s packed with a number of welcome features for any discerning photographer. It combines the image quality and adjustability of system cameras and the portability of digital compact cameras, for both the ambitious amateurs and discriminating professionals alike.
This point-and-shoot sports the superb iZUIKO digital lens, the brightest ever used in a compact, capable of F2.5 even at full telephoto. It features full manual aperture and shutter-speed adjustments, as well as excellent low-light capabilities, all processed in its large 1/1.63-inch CCD sensor as seen on its OLED monitor, with its Control Ring/Wheel Controller. Functions include Art Filters, Advanced Shooting, TruePicV Image Processor, and Live Guide.
Olympus looks like it has come up with some winners here. The digital camera market is becoming so diverse it is becoming more difficult to decide on which sector to play in, whether straight point-and-shoots, micro Four-Thirds, or DSLRs. The thing is, buying one of these cameras is nothing like getting yourself cheap cell phones.
