Our Journey To Good Oral Care Part 2

I shared with you all a few weeks ago, the fact that my family and I would be participating in an Oral Care Challenge, thanks to Listerine. Well, here we are a month later and happy to report back.

I had mentioned before that one of our main issues was flossing. This was something my kids were struggling with and honestly I was as well. I have to say I was a big fan of the Reach Access Flosser. I have very "tight" teeth and traditional flossing can be a bit of a pain. With the Access Flosser, I was able to sort of bite down on the handle gently gliding the floss into my hard to reach back teeth. This really made the process a lot easier and with that, I didn't feel like it was such a task, rather just part of the routine.

I am normally a fan of Listerine but let's face it we all know that Listerine burn. A part of me always liked (I don't know if liked is the word but I'll go with it) the burn as it made me feel like it was truly making a difference. However, I think the burn may have also led to "spitting" too soon. With Listerine Total Care Zero, I was able to rinse for the recommended period of time without discomfort. Yet, I was still left with the feeling in my mouth that this product was making a difference. In general the process really made me look at my oral care in a whole new light.

As far as my kids go. They were of course excited to see all their "fun" new products like; Barbie, Batman and Phineas and Ferb mouthwashes and toothbrushes... but would the excitement get them through to the end of the challenge and beyond??

We started off to good. What I mean by that is, on day two I found a bottle of Listerine Smart Rinse almost completely gone! While I was happy they liked the product it was important to me they learned to use it properly.

Listerine provided us with a chart to keep track of and reward our kids oral heath habits. At first I was unsure since we have used charts before with no real results, but all the kids seemed excited about this one. I thought it might be a good idea to copy the calendar and use a separate one for each of the kids until I seen it was really helping them work together.

See, they got to place a sticker on the chart each time they ALL brushed as well as rinsed at least twice a day. This help them motivate each other, because if one of them didn't put in the effort to complete the task, none of them would get a sticker for a completed day.

As far as flossing goes, my younger two children are still intimidated by the whole process of flossing. My older boys seemed to be drawn in originally by the taste of the Reach Listerine Fresh Mint floss. And with the approved taste, came the motivation to floss. Who knew that is all it took. I would have purchased it months ago!

I found this challenge really helped bring a better oral health routine into our home and even made a difference in the way I myself looked at my own oral care habits. Thank you all for sharing in our journey. I can only hope this challenge continues to influence us and we maintain good oral health.

“I wrote this review while participating in a blog tour by Mom Central Consulting on behalf of Listerine and received product samples to facilitate my review and a promotional item to thank me for taking the time to participate.”

I love Listerine Zero. That is all that we buy now. I even have my 5 year old rinsing with it because it isn't so strong.

We really liked the Listerine Zero too. It was one of our favorite parts of the challenge.

Great job motivating your children! When I was little, my dad told us that if we got cavities, we would have to pay for them ourselves. To this very day, I have no cavities :-)
