Holiday Guide To Gaming - Nintendo 3DS Review

I grew up on video games and to be honest this has helped pave the way for my children to surpass me and my husband with their gaming skills. The number one items on their holiday lists are always the newest game systems or games. This year the newest portable system available to them was the Nintendo 3DS and you could be sure it was item #1 on their list.

How lucky were they that they got an early preview of the system thanks to Nintendo.

The Nintendo 3DS is the first of it's kind featuring game play in 3D without the use of special glasses. It is truly a breakthrough in gaming technology. The upper screen gives a truly 3D experience, giving objects within the game world a feeling of space and depth that extends far into the back of the screen. You even have the ability to adjust the intensity of the 3D experience for those like myself who maybe a little sensitive to the 3D experience, making all games available for play in 3D or 2D.

What else makes this system unlike others? How about the Motion and Gyro Sensors?! These amazing features allow for even more unique game play. These built-in sensors have the ability to react to the motion and tilt of this hand-held system, so if your tilting, twisting or moving the system up and down, it will react to your motions!

Of course the Nintendo 3DS still has duel screens as well - A widescreen display on the top screen shows 800x240 pixel resolution, allocating 400 pixels for each eye to create the 3D effect. The bottom LCD touch screen operates at a resolution of 320x240—with both screens capable of displaying a brilliant 16.77 million colors. As an added feature you will find a analog control on the 3DS, combine with the original touch screen and buttons, you have come to know.

What other features are you getting? The stylus has been upgraded as well and is now adjustable. How about the fact that the 3DS comes equipped with a 3D camera! In fact it has two outer camera's which allow you to see in 3D, for the purpose of 3D photos. Nintendo has also included with the 3DS a charging dock and 2GB SD Card to store your photos, sound recordings, music for your PC along with downloaded games from the Nintendo eShop!

You still have the ability to connect with other 3DS players for multi-player games and you can access the Nintendo SpotPass. SpotPass allows the Nintendo 3DS to detect wireless HotSpots or wireless LAN access points and obtain information, game data, free software, videos and more. Best of all most Nintendo DS games are still compatible for 2D play on the 3DS.

Buy It: You can purchase the Nintendo 3DS for the MSRP of $169.99

Wow! How cool. I still have my *original* Gameboy - perhaps it is time to upgrade? ;) I've watched my friends & relatives play with DS - how cool that they have a 3-D version now.
