I'm pretty sure anyone who has been following me is aware of what a big fan of ThinkGeek I am. I could not let me holiday gift guide pass without a review of one of my favorites! I love visiting ThinkGeek through out the year and checking out the truly odd, unique, weird classic, and in most case down right geeky products they sell.
For those of you not familiar with the website "ThinkGeek started as an idea. A simple idea to create and sell stuff that would appeal to the thousands of people out there who were on the front line and in the trenches as the Internet was forged. ThinkGeek started as a way to serve a market that was passionate about technology, from programmers, engineers, students, lovers of open source, to the masses that helped create the behind-the-scenes Internet culture."
I feel like I am constantly mentioning how engulfed in technology my boys are. I guess it really is just the sign of the times, so I love to turn to ThinkGeek for more unique gifts for them. In fact besides the geeked up technology ThinkGeek also offers some classics. For the holidays this year I wanted to take the boys back to my roots and bring out a different side to the geekness with a great collection of classic board games and more.
I will start with the first and only Super Mario Yahtzee dice set. I think we have all played Yahtzee a time or two, but now you can play in style paying homage to a 80's classic.
You all know the rules right? The object is to roll the dice five times and come up with the most combinations as possible - a full house, three of a kind etc
Next we have Risk, yet another classic. I knew my boys would be ready for this one. They are obsessed with online war games and thought it would be nice to bring that enthusment to the table for family game night. What better way to do that then with Halo themed Risk.. After all Halo is my sons favorite video game* Well after Black Ops
Whats changed from the original? Well all the standard Risk Capitals has been changed and replaced with replaced with the UNSC Firebase, Covenant Command Center and Flood Proto Gravemind bases. There are three fractions -Covenant, Humans, & the "Flood. Game play has been sped up; completing an objective-based game takes 60-90 minutes.
What was your favorite game as a kid? Mine was Operation even though I always got the darn nose glowing and buzzing. Do you have a Star Wars fan in your life? I sure do and just couldn't pass up Star Wars Operation!
Yes that is right R2D2 is in need of some help! Only you and your steady hand can get him feeling better by removing that pesky light saber, Leia holograms, and tiny Darth Vader helmets. Remember a steady hand wins the game and R2D2 is relying on you to keep him out of the junk yard.
Besides being a fan of games we also love to build and create. Think Geek has some really fun Lego Sets including Lego Alien Abduction!!
Build and stage your very own alien Invasion with this 211 piece set. You want to know the reason I really like Lego's? They keep my boys occupied for long periods of time. Anytime they can't sit occupied ( with out a video system in front of them) for more then 20 minutes I am thrilled.
Lastly an item I could not be without this Christmas, the TannenBomb Prank Holiday Ornament
Oh yes, this is an Ornament like no other and will look nice on my Mother's tree this year. The TannenBomb Prank Holiday Ornament emits random annoying sounds at random intervals, the weight of the ornament when hanging on the tree silently triggers the on switch. With a festive zombie design and stylish gift box no one will ever know just what an annoyance awaits them this holiday season. A perfect gift for your boss! Or in my case, my parents...lol
Don't worry though ThinkGeek has products for all the Geeks in your life not just the kids. Just check out their site for tons of great gift ideas.
