A new product has hit the freezer aisle of select Publix Grocery stores in the Florida and Georgia areas - Kidfresh. Kidfresh Meals are new frozen meals especially for children. I was personally interested in checking out Kidfresh meals for a few reasons. My children, especially my youngest son and daughter love frozen meals. I go both ways about this. I love that they are quick, and perfect for that after school hunger when I have homework to contend with as well as dinner to think about. They are also great for my daughter as a lunch, she loves the fun kids meals geared toward children. Since she is the only one not in school these types of meal are a great quick option for her. Now what I don't like is these meals aren't always very nutritious.
Kid Fresh frozen kids meals are 100% Natural, nothing artificial in them. This makes me feel so much better about feeding my children a frozen meal. In fact, they also having hidden servings of veggies inside. Take the Kidfresh Muy Cheesy Quesadillas meal for example - inside the Creamy Cheddar and Monterey Jack cheese blend is a serving of carrots that your child won't even notice! Kidfresh meals have also lowered the sodium and calorie intake in their meals, helping bring parents a quick meal they can feel good about serving.
We picked up two different types of Kidfresh Meals at our local Publix - the Quesadillas and wagon wheel, mac & cheese. Unfortunately these are either the only varieties my Publix is carrying at this point or they were out of stock on the other varieties.
My son tried the Quesadillas and my daughter the Wagon Wheel Mac & Cheese. They both were happy with the taste, and have already asked if we could pick up more. I enjoyed knowing the secret of the added serving a veggies. What really stood out to me though was the use of fresh ingredients. When I removed the film cover from the Mac & Cheese bowl I was shocked to see not just a frozen cheese blend but actually shredded cheese covering the top as well. When microwaved the cheese melted as cheese does, and made for a homemade taste with a stringy cheese texture, that only real cheese can produce. I will be honest and say I don't do frozen very often for myself, but had to try the Mac & Cheese - And OH MY! I loved it. I would buy this meal for myself as well, I was honestly in shock that I liked it as much as I did.
Overall I think the serving size is great for a nutritious after school snack and as you can see on Kidfresh's Facebook page - they also have many other varieties that would make for a great quick dinner option. As parents we all have those days where fast is the only way, and a lot of times that day ends with a bag of fast food. Now in less time then it takes to circle through the drive-through your kids can enjoy Kidfresh frozen meals, with out the worry of high sodium, and mega calories. And don't forget the hidden veggies as well.
