What Are Your Thoughts On Wallpaper?

When we first moved into our home all I wanted to do was paint. After years of renting and white walls, I really wanted to make our home ours. I let all the kids pick out colors for their rooms and I choose my colors for the rest of the house. Within our first year here I had the house painted from top to bottom - with the exception of my own room.

Here I sit almost two years later thinking my husband would kill me if I told him I was bored of the color already - but I am! I was thinking of just changing one or two of the main rooms since my house has a very open layout. I think creating a different look in these rooms would make it appear as I had done a lot of work. If you get what I mean. I was thinking maybe of going a completely different route and wallpapering. I'm a little nervous because I have never had any experience with wall paper but love the different selections available.

You can see the selection I have been looking at. I really like the Bold Brown Stripes for the den and the Graham and Brown Stripe for the living room. I'm trying to stick with browns since my whole decor is centered around brown. Right now my kitchen, hall and livingroom are a deep chocolate. While by den, dining and guest bath are a beige. I would like to change the look without having to refurnish and decorate. I definitely don't have the money for all that work at the moment.

What do you think? Would you consider wall paper? My only concern is how well it would hold up. I certainly think it's a beautiful option as opposed to paint or trying to create a design with paint. I totally failed at creating stripes in my daughters room by hand. I was also thinking of doing a half and half option. Wallpaper up the wall half way and using a border like molding to separate the two. I just don't know there are so many options, I need some help.

I've used wall paper borders in my bathroom, daughter's nursery, and laundry room. Never again! My daughter peeled her border off, it was halfway up the wall and it was a huge pain to remove!!I want to redo the bathroom and I have everything to do it. But the thought of removing the border has stopped me from finishing the product. I cannot even imagine taking off a whole room of wall paper.

I'm not a big fan of wallpaper either. I would prefer to use paint and just try to use different accents. You can use a different color paint halfway up and still use the border which will look nice but I would stay away from wallpaper, it is a pain.

I think its actually much more modern than all paint. Much more sophisticated. Wallpaper today is like the best paint job- but with texture. I think most people think of the stuff in the 80's when they dislike it. I would say though- unless you are a pro- its a job you want a professional to do! Good luck!

Wall paper seems so permanent to me. I change paint colors every few years and it is fairly easy and inexpensive. Perhaps you may want to consider painting stripes or a pattern. There are many kits out there to help you. Good luck.

I like wallpaper. It's important to put sizing on your walls before you wallpaper, though. And, make sure the first piece is completely straight, or you will have all kinds of problems. It really isn't that hard to hang wallpaper, just pay attention to details, and have a sharp knife/scissors. Good luck!
