New Balance 871 - Built With Fitness in Mind

I've never been all that into what a sneaker features. What I mean by that is that I was of course aware, that there are basketball shoes, running shoes etc. But the only thing I ever cared about was what it matched and how it looked.

When I started my 90 day fitness challenge, I started to realize the sneakers I was wearing, didn't provide me much support and actually were making my feet really hurt during routines. Even worse was I thought these sneakers were so cute, I purchase similar styles the last three times I purchased sneakers. This left me with no options in my home for a supportive workout shoe - and I was at a loss when it came to how to shop for a sneaker, when looking for specific features.

New Balance thought they had the perfect shoe for me - the New Balance 871.

This supportive shoe is designed specifically for the boot camp participant. And let me tell you sometimes the wide range of workout routines I have been preforming can feel like something straight out of boot camp. The 871 offers premium shock absorption, making it easy to transition from sprints to stair jumps to weight exercises.

I also like to alternate doing a good majority of indoor workouts but when the weather cools a bit I like to workout outdoors and also like to take a daily walk and or jog. The 871 is designed to provide lateral stability on all surfaces like grass, pavement, sand or even the traditional gym floor.

Additional features and benefits of the 871

A low profile Acteva midsole provides excellent footwork control, enabling quick stops and direction changes, all without the fear of rolling an ankle
• N-ergy responsive cushioning technology offers premium shock absorption, dispersion, and energy return, which allows for a quick response, perfect for stair jumps and box jumps
 • A forefoot strapping system visible on the lateral and medial sides provides excellent lateral support perfect for lateral cone jumps and other side-to-side movements
• An aggressively lugged outsole pattern and outdoor inspired lugs provide optimal traction, important for mountain climbers, push-ups and other activities for all surfaces grass, dirt, pavement, sand or even on a traditional gym floor
• Suede reinforcements in the vamp, eye row, and quarter of the shoe offer extended durability without adding a significant amount of weight
• A pivot point allows for smooth direction changes

My thoughts: I liked the looked, but even more so I loved the supportive feeling. My ankle and foot pad were under significantly less stress during my workouts. The traction was a million times better then with my previous shoe. I was able to switch in and out of routines with ease and most of all could jog in complete comfort.

The only thing I notice was, I felt the size ran just a slight bit larger then normal. In general I was please with the overall fit, and found it surprising that I didn't have to go through the initial break-in period. Most shoes are slightly awkward or uncomfortable the first few days or wear. With the New Balance 871 and didn't experience any discomfit at all!

Released Feb 2011 The New Balance 871 was designed with women 28-45 years old looking to improve or maintain their health and fitness, in mind. Retailing for around $84.85
