Now of course there is the essentials or basic "MUST HAVES "that everyone knows. Like an infant car seat. It's my opinion that this is one of the most important safety items you will by for your baby. There are a lot of great brands out there and I recommend doing your research to choose the right Carseat for your baby and having it installed properly. After four kids I still have problems "properly installing a carseat". There is nothing more important then the safety of your child.
Now there are a few other essentials or "of course you must haves" like a crib, bottles or breast pump, diapers, wipes, and LOTS of changes of clothes.
Then there are those Mother to Mother Must haves..Things that were life savers, things I couldn't live without, products I just loved and would tell any new Mom she has to have.
My Must Haves:
A Bassinet- Most of the time lets face it, even if baby has his or her own room those first few months you want them near. You want to be able to check on them every second ( we all do it), closer for feedings, midnight wake ups etc and honestly I always felt they were so tiny to be in such a BIG crib at first and felt the rested MUCH better in a smaller bassinet then a large crib. After all they are used to small spaces right? I always loved having baby right next to my bed with out actaully having to be in my bed, plus I could roll it around wherever it was needed.
My Fisher Price Cradle N Swing- All my children Lived in their swings. The absolutely loved them. The swing is probably my number one can't live without item. I was able to get some hands free time, they were always instantly soothed and most of the time could fall out for hours. It may seem silly but it always made me feel safer that they were in a more upright position for those ever faithful spit ups. My one son had reflux and Slept in his swing because lying on his back he would choke on his spit up. Swings have come such a long way as well. I absolutely love my Fisher Price Cradle and Swing as it goes side to side, front to back, has lights at night, play bar and canopy. Available in styles for boys and girls.
Bouncer Seat: I recently purchased one of these for a friend. She was SO thankful. It wasn't on her registry but I just new she needed this item. She was so impressed with how much her son not only enjoyed it but again it gave her some hands free time and it's portable! Great for the bathroom floor while you getthat must needed shower!
The Jeep Liberty X Stroller- I'm not just saying that because I have a review and giveaway going on for it. Of ALL the stroller I have bought and used and there have been MANY. This one far stands out in my mind as the best. Simple to use, one hand fold, easily glides over any terrain, included entertainment for baby. Can be used with a variety of infant carseats and as a toddler stroller and VERY roomy with out being overly bulky..Love it! *not a jogging stroller*
As they get a bit older a Stationary Entertainers are a lot of fun for them. I however prefer a old fashion walker. Now I know there can be controversy with this, but I say if you don't have stairs these are wonderful. Baby gets so excited when he or she is able to grasp the concept of making it move. I've always stood by them, with proper supervision.
Oh and I can't forget receiving blankets lots of them!
My not so must haves:
The Dipar Genie- I could never get it to work right, and it just wasted a lot of my time.
Changing table- Never once did I change my child on this. I would maybe recommend one of those pads that goes under their butts, that come usually standard with a diaper bag, cause things can get messy. The table in general though was just used to stack things on.
